"Bullitt" (1968)
"Bullitt" won an Academy Award for Best Film Editing, but is best remembered for the car chase scene through the streets of San Francisco, with Steve McQueen in a Ford Mustang chasing two hit-men in a Dodge Charger. A poll in January 2004 of 5,500 movie buffs by "Choice Video" in the UK voted the chase sequence as the best car pursuit in film history, ahead of Gone in 60 Seconds (1974) and The French Connection (1971). The video at youtube.com runs for a bit over 10 minutes. It is the complete car chase, from start to finish.
